Add vanilla. Mix in desired color pastes. Frost cookies and let frosting completely dry, about 1 hour. Store layers of cookies with wax paper in between. You can use food coloring, but you will need a little more powder sugar. The wilton pastes are great, very color intense and they have no taste; red and even black! Good luck!
