Editorial Review of Nicaraguan Santa Lucia Estate (1 pound) by igourmet.com

The Matagalpa region is known as the "Pearl of the North", because it is made up of lakes, mountains, and volcanoes. The fertility of the land and the altitude in the highlands make it ideal for growing one of the finest coffees in the world. The people of Nicaragua strive for "sustainable coffee," offering a higher quality of life for workers, environmental quality, and a quality cup of coffee. Nicaraguan coffee is shade grown, meaning a canopy of trees cover the coffee plants. This offers two benefits; a slower growing cycle for the plants that allows time for the sugars in the beans to mature, and the preservation of the natural habitat. The sun dries Santa Lucia Estate coffee naturally, so you get a definite "mountain aroma" in every cup. Dark roasted and medium bodied, this fine Nicaraguan coffee has a mild, clean flavor with a delicate honey-like sweetness.

Review Summary: Coffee Excellent, but buy direct
Review: A lovely coffee, fruity instead of earthy, with overtones of chocolate. You can buy this coffee cheaper direct from the company at their website, however.

Review Summary: From a Chef and a Restaurant Owner
Review: Just returned from New Orleans on a Business trip. During my visit I dined at Restaurant August (Chef John Besh). Tasting menu was fantastic which was expected but the cup of coffee was unbelievable. Definitely the best cup of coffee I have ever had. They do French Press Table side which doesn't hurt but the coffee was robust in flavor with a slight dark chocolate overtone all the way through, just the right amount of acid but the smoothest finish I have ever had in a coffee. It would be hard to keep up with his menu but he found a way to do it with this coffee. This stuff will most definitely be served in my establishment!

Review Summary: Smoothest coffee ever
Review: I first tasted Santa Lucia Estate coffee at a Ruth's Chis steakhouse. The coffee was thick and black and robust. But not bitter or acid at all. Probably The most delicious cup of coffee I have ever tasted.
