Kosher Norwegian Smoked Salmon, Gravadlax, PreSliced - Approximately 35.2 oz / 2.2 lbs each package by Fossen, Norway. Gravadlax Salmon, pre-sliced, is a first class product with the characteristic taste of dill, and an attractive color. This sliced product is sliced from a semi-frozen Gravadlax fillet that is approximately -10°C when slicing. This technique gives delicate slices with a smooth surface. The Gravadlax Salmon is sliced in thicker slices than the smoked. This is done in order to make it easier to handle the slices, as well as to enhance the rich dill taste. Marinating (graving) of salmon is an old Scandinavian specialty. The salmon fillets are covered with a mixture of salt, sugar, pepper and dill for 3 days. The fillets are turned several times during the process. Gravadlax is also called marinated salmon due to this process. All chefs have their own recipe for making Gravadlax. Gravadlax becomes ever more popular, as a starter, as a main course or on the buffet. It takes time to make your own Gravadlax, and the shelf life is very short. The product is also sensitive to micro-bacteriological contamination, as it is eaten almost in rare condition.
