Editorial Review of Baby and Child Vegetarian Recipes: Over 150 Healthy and Delicious Dishes for Your Young Family
The five chapters of the book, each introduced with heaps of practical advice including menu charts, cover stages in the development of a child's eating habits from the first taste to toddlerhood. Recipes range from basic purées and staples such as macaroni cheese and bubble and squeak to the more sophisticated Hungarian stuffed marrow and avocado and cottage cheese dip. Recipes are clearly presented and include boxes in which to register your child's reaction--no one is pretending it is always easy to feed youngsters!
An added bonus to this already excellent book are Stephen May's humorous illustrations. The leap-frogging grains of rice and the potatoes enjoying a hot tub are bound to raise a smile and could prove useful for parents wishing to encourage an awareness of cooking in their children. As Carol Timperley says in her introduction: An appreciation of good food is one of the greatest of all gifts you can give your child.
Fully endorsed by the Vegetarian Society and approves by consultant nutritionist Jane Brophy, this book will be an inspiration to busy parents. --Dale Evans
Customer Reviews of Baby and Child Vegetarian Recipes: Over 150 Healthy and Delicious Dishes for Your Young Family
Review Summary: Should be called 'Baby, Child and Adult Vegetarian Recipes'
Review: A fantastic book full of advice and recipes in an approachable style. My children are now both at school but we still use recipes (or variations of them) from this book. It helps you through the early days of weaning with lots of suggestions that can be easily fitted around the demands of a young family. It clearly explains what can be added (ingredients and textures) along the way and how to ensure your child has a balanced diet. Many of the recipes can be frozen, which means you can cook in bulk when you have time, and some of those labelled as not suitable for freezing still taste good the second time around.
I have used recipes from this book for my children, their friends, as well as my friends and older family members. They are especially good as 'one-pot' meals, which can be supplemented by side vegetables to provide contrast if necessary.
My only criticism of the book would be the use of nuts, and peanuts in particular, in a lot of recipes. This is purely personal because my son is asthmatic and we have tried to avoid peanuts. However, most of these recipes are just as successful without the nuts, as long as you remember to exchange them for other sources of protein such as pulses.
Highly recommended if you are planning a veggie family or have veggie children, whatever their ages.

Review Summary: Fantastic Veggie Baby Book!
Review: This book is fantastic for Mums who want to give their baby a veggie diet. I only wish I'd found it sooner! The book is divided into the different stages your baby goes through so it's easy to find recipes that will suit your babys age. The recipes are easy to follow and have all been a hit with my little one.

Review Summary: Must have cook book!
Review: This is a real winner; I would never have thought my 8 month old would be eating curries, but he has loved every single recipe I have cooked in this book so far. I've not stopped cooking since I got it! It has made catering for the family so easy; I just double the ingredients to make enough to batch freeze for my son, and a meal for the 3 of us. I honestly think my vegetarian diet has improved as a result of this book. I would recommend it to everyone, meat eaters included.

Review Summary: Fantastic!
Review: I love this book! I'm a hopeless cook, but determined to bring up my daughter on a varied vegetarian diet of homecooked food rather than ready-made stuff.
As well as many recipes, the book also contains sample weekly menu plans - particularly useful for the early weeks of weaning. All recipes also indicate whether or not they'll freeze well.

Review Summary: A must for Veggie Mummy and daughter
Review: I have been a vegetarian since I was 10, my husband has now followed suit so we decided this was how we wanted to bring up our daughter. I was worried that I would be stuck for recipes and constantly paranoid that she wouldn't be getting all the required food groups. This book put paid to my worries - it's fantastic and I would thoroughly recommend it to all - non-veggies included. The author has a relaxed approach and it's great to know she's been through everything first with her own son.
