Review Summary: Good food Jenny, but Leon is not Castille
Review: Good recipes, shame that some of them are linked to the wrong region.
I guess Jenny will never read this but it'd be good if it was put right on next editions of this book. I am from one of the areas of Northern Spain that she mentions and I was very unpleasantly surprised to see that she misuses repeatedly the name of Castilla Y Leon, wich means Castille AND Leon, and this is because it's formed by two very different regions: The Region of Leon (provinces of Zamora, Salamanca and Leon), and the Region of Castille (provinces of Valladolid, Palencia, Burgos, Soria, Segovia and Avila). Calling everything Castille or Old Castille (the old name for the castillian provinces) is untrue, is disrespectful to the Leonese people and is misleading the reader and not the best way to sell a book that boast of knowing the cuisine of the areas mentioned. She gives the name of products and recipes from the Leonese Region but says they are from Castille. I wouldn't like to buy a book about Scottish recipes to find that it shows recipes from London, Leeds or Cardiff, just because, apart from being false, it is not what the book is said to be for. The funny thing is that when you open Jenny's book the first thing that greets you is a massive two page old map where you can see the two different Regions of Leon and Castilla as different entities, and another one at the end of the book!. Maybe she never saw them...But one thing is true, the morcilla, chorizo and cecina of Leon are the best in the country. if you ever go there make sure you don't miss them.

Review Summary: Indespensible Luggage Item!
Review: We take an off season break (ie when it's raining but inexpensive!) in Catalonia each year with friends. I bought this book after one such and it now comes with us on each trip.
Jenny Chandler has filled the book with some excellent, often very straight forward, recipes ranging geographically from Galicia on the Northwestern tip of Spain, right across to Barcelona. She does a good job of explaining regional differences in ingredients and technique and enlivens the book with plenty of relevant anecdote.
In addition, the illustrating photos are of very high quality and Chandler provides a clear and concise guide to the wines of the region that makes a very welcome change from just buying Rioja.
Strongly recommended for anyone interested in Mediterranean and Southern European cookery.

Review Summary: Yum!
Review: Not just another 'cook book' thank Gawd! Spanish food has never looked or tasted so good. I was bought it for Christmas and can honestly say that it's changed my eating habits….. for the better! Expert, but easy to follow descriptions; make this book a must for all food lovers. Although we visit Gran Canaria often, we are now planning a trip to Northern Spain. Thanks 'Jenny Chandler' for a refreshing, informative Christmas present!

Review Summary: Fat as a Badger (in a good way)
Review: I was very excited when I spotted this book in my local Deli. I spent many a month in northern Spain as a child and these recipes bought happy memories flooding back. What's more the meals are hearty yet healthy and I now feel 'strong like de Bull' (which pleases my wife immensely). Oh and the pictures are great too!
